Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral?

No referral is required! However, if you have a regular dentist, a referral will help with planning your treatment and sharing any relevant x-rays.

Do I require a consultation?

A separate consultation is not always needed, depending on the required treatment.

However, the consult is an opportunity to discuss your treatment needs and go over various treatment options, what’s involved, relevant risks, expected recovery time, anaesthetic options and costs.

Treatment on the day is usually provided for all cases except for complex cases, cases requesting sedation, or removal of multiple teeth or wisdom teeth on both sides.

A recent x-ray (preferably less than 1 year old) is always required. Usually this is an “OPG”, but your dentist may have taken a smaller x-ray if not a wisdom tooth.

What are the Anaesthetic options?

We offer a range of anaesthetic options, not just general anaesthesia in hospital.

Dr Fell is highly skilled at comfortably performing even the most complex of cases under local anaesthesia or light sedation, but deeper sedation can be arranged if requested or deemed appropriate.

Are there tips for preparing for surgery?

Yes!

  • Understand your treatment options and risks

  • Factor in appropriate recovery

  • Ensure you have over-the-counter pain relief (you will also receive a prescription if needed)

  • Bring a chaperone if you are having any form of sedation

  • Have some ice packs in the freezer ready to go if swelling is expected

Don’t worry!

Dr Fell is highly skilled at comfortably performing even the most complex of cases and we will support you with any anxiety or fears you may have. You are in experienced and trusted hands!
