Although this is a very common procedure, it is important to get the right advice regarding the removal of wisdom teeth. After-all, not everyone needs them removed!
We only recommend the removal of wisdom teeth when there is a proven history of problems, or if there is evidence that there will be future problems.
Get the right advice and book a consult with us to see what your wisdom teeth are doing. Our surgeon is highly skilled at the removal of wisdom teeth of all degrees of difficulty, should they need removing. This includes “coronectomy” (or partial removal) where there is a high chance of nerve injury.
-
The most common reason for removing a tooth is that it cannot be fixed, and leaving it there will cause pain and infection. Sometimes the tooth can be saved, but the patient prefers removal. Some orthodontists request the removal of teeth (usually premolars) as part of the orthodontic plan.
-
Sometimes things don’t go to plan, or the dentist may have bitten off more than they can chew! Our surgeon can draw upon years of experience to skilfully complete your tooth removal, both quickly and comfortably.

Some patients require special care based on their medical status or the medications they take, for example:
Patients on osteoporosis medications (e.g Prolia, Fosamax, Actonel)
Patients on blood thinners, steroids or multiple medications (polypharmacy)
Immunocompromised patients (e.g immunosuppressant drugs, cancer treatment, diabetes)
-
Usually required to accomodate the wearing of dentures, such as the removal of uncomfortable areas of bone and excess soft tissue.
-
Removal of non-cancerous lumps and bumps on the oral cavity including polyps (most commonly fibroepithelial polyps), fibromas, granulomas and mucoceles (cysts of the minor saliva glands of the lip)
-
Most procedures can be comfortably performed under local anaesthesia, however, sometimes the complexity of the case calls for some degree of sedation. For some patients, the prospect of surgery is over-whelming, hence we can tailor sedation options to suit your needs.
Anaesthetic options include:
Local anaesthesia
Oral sedation
Intravenous sedation (twilight sedation)
General anaesthesia (limited locations)
